On August 14, members of the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate’s Policy Advisory Board and their spouses gathered at the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club for the annual Summer Social. Against the backdrop of a relaxed evening overlooking the golf course, attendees enjoyed an opportunity to connect, celebrate new beginnings, and strengthen the bonds that define the PAB community.

The evening featured remarks from Stath Karras, executive director of the BMC, who reflected on the importance of mentorship in supporting students and shaping their success. “In today’s world of uncertainty, academic compression and artificial intelligence, every single university, college, and academic department is asking the question, how do we provide value to our students? My answer is simple. We provide value through each one of you.”

Stath also introduced several new PAB members:

  • Kelly Modén, president and CEO of cREate development, and her husband, Erick

  • John Bosman, chief operating officer of Midtown National Group and USD alumnus, with his wife, Erin

  • Brunson Howard, market leader and senior managing director for CBRE San Diego, and his wife, Fatima

The evening culminated with welcoming remarks from Brian Tietje, the new dean of the Knauss School of Business at the University of San Diego, and his wife, Debbie. Brian expressed his enthusiasm for partnering with the Burnham-Moores Center and the real estate community, noting his commitment to a student-centric approach and strong business engagement.

The Summer Social once again highlighted the enduring value of bringing PAB members together—offering an evening of camaraderie, shared purpose, and warm introductions to new colleagues and leaders who will help carry forward the mission of the center.
