The Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate welcomed a crowd of 100 students, alumni and commercial real estate professionals to the University of San Diego on September 22nd for its Dialogue Series, Thriving in Today’s Dynamic Workplace. Featuring Mandy Mooney, vice president of internal communications at Prologis and author of Corporating: 3 Ways to Win at Work, the event offered an engaging and practical look at how relationships, reputation and resilience can shape professional success.

The morning began with breakfast and relationship building, allowing attendees to connect with one another and with Mandy before the program. Throughout the program, Mandy brought an energetic and highly interactive approach to the conversation, combining personal stories, audience exercises, humor and even a few spontaneous moments of song as she shared lessons from her own career journey.

Drawing from Corporating, Mandy centered the discussion around three themes: relationships, reputation and resilience. She encouraged attendees to be intentional about building professional relationships and seeking mentors, emphasizing how a thoughtful introduction or follow-up can open unexpected doors. She also challenged attendees to think about the reputation they build through their attitude, actions and individual strengths, while reminding them that career setbacks are inevitable and determination often means finding another way forward.

Attendees had opportunities throughout the program to put those ideas into practice. During the Work Words of Wisdom activity, participants shared career advice with someone they did not know, creating new connections while exchanging lessons learned from their own experiences. Mandy also encouraged attendees to identify their professional “superpower” and consider the mentors, peers and supporters who make up their personal “squad.” Her message was clear: relationships open doors, reputation earns trust and resilience builds grit.

The message particularly resonated with USD students, many of whom stayed after the program to speak with Mandy and continued the conversation by reaching out to her afterward. Students shared that they appreciated her honesty, energy and emphasis on perseverance, demonstrating that the morning’s lessons extended well beyond the presentation itself.

Each attendee also received a complimentary copy of Corporating: 3 Ways to Win at Work, providing an opportunity to continue exploring Mandy’s practical strategies for navigating the workplace.

By bringing together students, alumni and industry professionals through candid conversations and shared experiences, the Dialogue Series continues to create opportunities for the real estate community to learn from one another and grow together.
